Today we will move to the Western hemisphere of our planet and see how things are going there - in South America particularly. Which countries belong to this region, which countries stand out from others, and what is the current situation regarding elevators’ installations in the region. Read below!
How Many Countries Are in South America?
It includes twelve sovereign states: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela; one overseas department and region of France: French Guiana; and one British Overseas Territory: the Falkland Islands.
Which countries stand out from others?
In Latin America, Brazil held a major market for Elevator and Escalator system in terms of existing installations owing to increasing infrastructure development activities, especially in the commercial and residential verticals. Argentina and Colombia expected to register growth in the Latin America region.
The Brazilian elevator market reached its peak in 2014 when new installations climbed to 16,000 units, but, at present, after the 2014 Brazilian economic crisis, that number has fallen to 11,000. However, the worst period is over.
Positive Effects of Urbanization
Urbanization has important implications for the future development of the vertical transportation sector. The city population tends to work and live in high buildings. In addition, the rising population in cities has also meant that mixed-use buildings are gaining greater importance and high-rise construction is no longer restricted to the financial and business sectors.
It is becoming an accepted global model for managing the increasing number of city dwellers as more than one million people on our planet move to cities each week. Another consequence of increased urbanization is that urban populations are likely to demand more vertical transportation units and this may change the way that elevators are used in the future.
Within Latin America, the urbanization trends are quite varied. The rate of urbanization has increased from 62,5% in 1970 to 80% in 2020 The highest levels of urbanization can be found in South America, particularly in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Venezuela. In Brazil, more than 35% of the rural population migrated to the urban areas from 1970 to 2020, but still, it has the highest urban population of the region with more than 51 million of rural inhabitants, almost twice the population of Peru.
Clearly, the development of new infrastructure and an increase in the urban population immediately leads to an increase in the demand for information and... advertising. For good reason. Digital signage advertising mediums are engaging, cost-effective ways of increasing sales and awareness. And elevators offer advertisers an ideal advertising setup.
People are stuck in one location, probably with a lack of cell phone signal, and have very little to look at. They are ready to give you their attention! It’s a perfect spot for your digital signage.
